about the exhibition.
Sculpture at Binalup is a new outdoor sculpture exhibition celebrating contemporary artistic practice in connection with the rich cultural and ecological significance of Binalup / Middleton Beach.
​
The exhibition acknowledges the Menang Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of Kinjarling / Albany and invites artists to engage with the themes of Reflecting on the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Creating the Future through sculpture and installation.
​
As part of the Albany 2026 Bicentenary program, Sculpture at Binalup will anchor a strong visual presence for artistic expression and truth-telling. Through contemporary sculpture, artists will contribute to dialogue and storytelling about the history, culture, and aspirations of this place. .

Artists are encouraged to explore one or more of the following themes:

Reflecting on the Past, Celebrating the Present, Creating the Future

Inspired by the Albany 2026 Bicentenary vision, artists are invited to respond to the history of Kinjarling / Albany, the experiences of the community today, and aspirations for the future. -
Connection to Country
Works that honor the deep cultural and environmental significance of Binalup, acknowledging its enduring Menang Noongar custodianship. -
Place-based Relevance
Artists should consider the coastal landscape, elements such as sand, sea, wind, and sky, and the diverse flora and fauna unique to this environment. -
Community & Collaboration
Works that invite audience interaction, reflect collective stories, or foster shared experiences. -
Sustainability

Consideration of materials, environmental impact, and the lifecycle of the work.

Selected artists will receive:
-
An artist fee of AUD $500, payable upon successful installation of the artwork. This amount may increase if additional funding is secured.

Opportunities for in-kind support, including access to installation assistance, lifting equipment (by prior negotiation), and limited material sponsorship for community-based works.

Scholarships for collaborative installations, supporting lead artists working on projects involving community participation.

The opportunity to sell artwork, with transparent commission arrangements.

Additional earning opportunities, including participation in the school outreach program, exhibition education initiatives, and artist talks.

Prize money (amounts TBC) will be awarded for: People’s Choice Award, Acquisitive Prize, Non-Acquisitive Award
